Reflections caused by three documentaries I watched: Marley, Maiden Trip and Tony Robbins: I am not your Guru. Apparently, these documentaries have nothing to do with each other, but believe me, they have something in common. And it wasn't for that reason that I watched them, it was just causality when choosing something to watch and pass the time.

The first Marley is the biography of singer Bob Marley. It shows where he was born, how he grew up, his career in music, his ideals, his family and his death. The most interesting thing is Bob's connection with Rastafari, a philosophy that motivated all his convictions.

The second, Maiden Trip, is the story of the journey of Laura Dekker (my new heroine), a 13-year-old Dutch girl who was the youngest person to sail around the planet in her small sailboat. After Laura had sailed solo to England years before, she decided that she would do it. However, the courts ruled that it was negligent of her parents to let her do it alone. Well, she succeeded and now lives in New Zealand (you'll have to watch the documentary on why she lives here! =) between seasons of work and trips on her sailboat.

The third documentary about master coach Tony Robbins was a first for me. I didn't know him and, given the size of the events he hosts, I seem to be one of the few people who didn't know him. However, what surprised me most in this documentary was Dawn Watson. A Brazilian who grew up in a community/sect (or whatever) called Filhos de Deus (I was shocked, because I'd never heard of this sect and what they do). Well, after finishing the Tony Robbins event, she also became a coach and now gives motivational talks (she's even in Brazil).

And what do they have in common? They are stories of people who had the courage to pursue their dreams. They are examples of the fact that if you know what you want and go the extra mile, there's no such thing as "I don't know if I'm going to make it". And when you get there, you find fulfillment and, from that moment on, you are filled with a power that only people who are fulfilled and committed to their dreams have. The power of mastery over their own lives, the recognition that only you can go much further than where you are. And these people become inspirations, they become something more in this world full of the normal, the usual, the ordinary, the common, the trivial, the dull, the invisible.

It's the freedom of having found your mission. Until you reach it there are many, many sacrifices, but deep down when this freedom finds you and you find it, deep down it is priceless, in fact, all the sacrifices you went through to reach it go up in smoke and blow away with the wind. And then you realize that it was all worth it. And you possess that mysterious power that only those special people have.

Unfortunately, most people on this planet will be average, because that's life. The extraordinary power of self-mastery is for the few in this world, because it is so powerful that if everyone possessed it, the world and life would no longer be what it is, it would be something we don't know yet.

However, life is so perfect and wonderful that it gives you the only great opportunity to decide whether you deserve this power or not.

Quotes from people who got there:

"The realization of a dream is to wake up inside." (Adapted from a quote by Mário Quintana)

"To kill your dream is to kill yourself. It's mutilating our soul. The dream is what is truly ours, what is impenetrably and impregnably ours." (Fernando Pessoa)

"Dream and you will be free in spirit... fight and you will be free in life." (Che Guevara)

"If we can dream it, we can also make our dreams come true." (Walt Disney)

With love,

Cha ✩

Os últimos quinze dias me deram algumas reflexões.
